Nevis ShoppingStamp collectors will be familiar with Nevis because of its oftensought stamps. Stop by the Philatelic Bureau on Main Street in Charlestown for the best selection. One of the best stops isNevis Pottery in Newcastle, where artisans craft the local clay soil into various vessels. The pots are finished over a fire of coconut shells behind the shop. The shop is openMonday through Friday and is located near the Newcastle Airport on the main road (no phone).

Independent travelers looking for the self-sufficiency of a housekeeping unit – as well as some of the most splendid views on the island – will love these stylish bungalows. Each of the 10 hill-hugging cottages was constructed in Scandinavia, broken down and reassembled on a slope overlooking St. Kitts in the distance. Today they're all open-air and furnished with Caribbean artwork. One- , two- and three-bedroom bungalows with kitchens are available and guests can walk down to the beach.

Call Michael Herbert (869-469-2501) for information about camping in the Herbert's Heights Nature Preserve.

This casually elegant inn is a favorite with eco-tourists because of the diligent efforts of its owner/manager, Pam Barry. A fifth-generation Nevisian, Barry emphasizes local culture, history and nature studies, offering her self-guided nature trails to both guests and non-guests.
Her efforts have elevated this inn to one of the top Caribbean accommodations for nature lovers.

This is themost luxurious accommodation on Nevis and indeed one of the top resorts in the Caribbean. Boasting a championship golf course, 10 tennis courts, two outdoor Jacuzzis, 24-hour room service and more, this resort is for those who want a little pampering. When word went out that the Four Seasons was coming to Nevis, doomsayers predicted the end of the quaint atmosphere for which Nevis is known. However, during the hotel's construction, Hurricane Hugo hit the island and the Four Seasons' bosses stopped building and put crews to work cleaning up the island. Today, the tiny island inns coexist peacefully with this corporate giant.
The Four Seasons Nevis sprawls across grounds dotted with coconut palms and other carefully tended flora. Guests can enjoy a round of golf, scuba, windsurf or just sun around the pool, cooled by Evian sprayed on guests by pool attendants.

Nevis SightseeingNevis' greatest asset is its natural beauty, a curtain of green lushness that envelopes Mount Nevis as it rises from the sea. Covered with a blanket of tall coconut palms, the hillsides invite slow drives and longwalks. Formost travelers, the greatest attractions are the island's eco-tourism activities, leisurely resort pace and golden beaches. Nearly all travelers spend a day, however, exploring some of the island's other charming sights.
