St. Kitts & Nevis WeddingGetting married on St. Kitts or Nevis is a simple matter. Either the bride or groom must be a resident of the island for 48 hours prior to the wedding. Bring along a valid passport or certified birth certificate and, if either party is divorced, present an absolute decree of divorce.
If either the bride or groom is widowed, a death certificate is necessary. (If the documents are not in English, a notarized translation must be presented.) To be married by a Catholic priest, you must bring a letter from your resident priest verifying that you are unmarried and have received necessary instruction. To bemarried by an Anglican minister, bring a letter from your minister verifying that you are unmarried. The marriage license fee is EC $200 (or US $80).

The Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC $) is used throughout St. Kitts and Nevis. The fixed exchange rate is US $1 to EC $2.68.

Electricity

Electricity is supplied at 230 volts, 60 cycles. Most hotels have 110 volts and converters are available, but we recommend that you purchase one prior to leaving home.

Health Concerns

Both St. Kitts andNevis have doctors on call at hotels. Recompression chambers are available by air ambulance at nearby Saba and in St. Thomas.

St. Kitts and Nevis are good destinations any time of year. The atmosphere during winter months is somewhat dressier and more formal, however. During these months, an older, more affluent clientele frequents the islands, many from Britain. In low season (mid-April through mid-December), accommodation prices drop as much as 40% and the typical visitor is younger.

People & Culture

Much of the population traces its heritage back to African slaves first brought to these islands to work the sugar plantations. When slavery was outlawed, indentured laborers, many Portuguese, relocated here. Today, the population is 45,000 (9,000 of these residents are located on Nevis).
