Nassau and Freeport/Lucaya, with four casinos and a number of nightclubs and theaters between them, are the hot-spots for nightlife and entertainment. To experience the warm summer evenings, the colorful dress of the Bahamians, and the lilting sounds of West Indian steel drums and calypso music, is to capture some of the real feeling of the islands.

Warm trade winds blow almost constantly, providing never-ending opportunities. Equipment can be rented quite easily on New Providence and Grand Bahama, and some of the largest hotels and resorts offer windsurfing free of charge. On the Out Islands, however, windsurfing gear is harder to find.

The best sites for water skiing are off Paradise Island and Cable Beach in Nassau, and off the beaches at Freeport/Lucaya. Many of the big hotels on the two main islands of New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama offer water skiing, as do some of the larger hotels and resorts on the Out Islands.

Many of the larger and resort hotels have excellent tennis facilities. The largest is the 20-court tennis complex at Club Med on Paradise Island. There are also fine facilities at other hotels on Paradise Island, Cable Beach, on Grand Bahama at Freeport/Lucaya, and on Eleuthera.

There are literally thousands of beaches here – some crowded, some so deserted you won’t see another human being for weeks at a time. Great expanses of sugar-white sand and the palest of green waters stretch for mile after sun-soaked mile. On New Providence and Grand Bahama, almost every hotel is either on or close to a beach. Those that aren’t provide free shuttle services back and forth to a carefully selected and monitored beach. The Out Islands boast of some of the finest beaches in the world, including Fernandez Bay on Cat Island, Harbour Island off Eleuthera, Rolleville on Great Exuma, Great Harbour Cay on the Berry Islands, Staniard Creek on Andros, Stocking Island off George Town on Great Exuma, and the entire shoreline of Mayaguana Cay just east of Acklins Island.
